Privacy Policy
Guppy is built so that your family's data never reaches us. This page explains exactly what that means — what the app stores, where it lives, and the one optional feature that uses your own iCloud.
1. Who we are
This policy covers Guppy, a pregnancy and baby tracking app for iPhone and Apple Watch (bundle identifier com.guppy.kickcounter), including its widgets, Apple Watch app, Live Activities, and Siri shortcuts. "We" and "us" refer to the developer of Guppy. Contact details are at the end of this page.
2. What we collect: nothing
Guppy has no backend, no API, and makes no network calls to any server we operate — because we don't operate any. The app's App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected. We have no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or tracking code of any kind, first-party or third-party, and the app works fully offline.
Because of this, we never receive — and therefore cannot access, sell, share, or lose — anything you record in Guppy.
3. What you enter, and where it lives
Guppy stores what you choose to log so the app can work. Depending on the features you use, that can include:
- Pregnancy tracking — kick counting sessions and contraction timings.
- Baby care logs — feeds (nursing, bottle amounts, solids), diapers (including optional consistency and color details), sleep, vitamin D and other medication doses (including the medication names you set up), growth measurements (weight, height, head circumference), and questions you save for the pediatrician.
- Profile & settings — your baby's name, birth date, sex, and due date, plus reminder times and display preferences.
- Memories — milestones, photos, videos, albums, captions, and any free-text notes you add.
All of it is stored locally, on your device, in a private container shared only with Guppy's own widget and Apple Watch app. It is not uploaded anywhere by default — automatic cloud mirroring is off. Photos and videos you add are copied into Guppy's own private storage; the app uses Apple's photo picker, which lets you hand over only the items you select, without giving Guppy access to your photo library.
Data moves between your iPhone and your Apple Watch directly, using Apple's device-to-device Watch connectivity — not through any server of ours.
4. Family Sync (optional, your own iCloud)
Family Sync lets you share baby logs with one partner. It is off until you set it up, and it is the only feature that moves data off your device. When enabled:
- Shared records are stored in the private database of your own iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit, and made available to your partner through Apple's iCloud sharing. The data flows between your devices and Apple's iCloud — never through us, and we cannot read it.
- What syncs: baby care events (feeds, diapers, sleep, vitamin D and medication doses, growth, notes), your medication list, pediatrician questions, milestones, photos, videos, and albums.
- What never syncs, even with Family Sync on: kick sessions, contraction timings, your baby's profile (name, birth date, sex, due date), and your settings. These stay on your device only.
- During pairing, the app displays your partner's iCloud name and your devices' names so you can confirm you're pairing with the right person. Pairing over QR code or nearby devices happens directly between the two phones.
- You can stop sharing at any time from the app or from iOS Settings, and you can delete the synced data from your iCloud. iCloud data is handled under Apple's privacy policy and protected by Apple's CloudKit encryption.
5. Siri, Shortcuts, widgets & Live Activities
Guppy offers Siri shortcuts (for example, "log a bottle" or "start nursing"), Home and Lock Screen widgets, and a nursing Live Activity. These read and write the same local data described above. Your voice requests to Siri are processed by Apple under Apple's privacy policy; Guppy only receives the resulting action (such as "log a wet diaper") and never any audio.
6. Device permissions, and why we ask
- Camera — only to scan your partner's QR code when setting up Family Sync. No photos are taken, stored, or transmitted.
- Local network & Bluetooth — only to discover your partner's nearby device during Family Sync pairing.
- Notifications — for reminders you set (like vitamin D) and nursing updates. These are scheduled locally on your device. If you use Family Sync, Apple's silent push notifications keep the two devices in sync.
- Photo picker — to add the specific photos and videos you select to milestones and albums.
Every permission is optional, used only for the purpose listed, and the app works without them.
7. Exporting and sharing your data
You can export your history to a spreadsheet, generate a Baby Book PDF, or share photos and achievement cards. Every export is created on your device and only leaves it when you choose where to send it through the iOS share sheet. Nothing is exported or shared automatically.
8. Children's privacy
Guppy is made for parents and expecting parents, not for use by children. The information you record about your baby is entered by you, stays under your control on your device, and is never transmitted to us. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone — children or adults.
9. Data retention and deletion
Your data is retained on your device until you delete it. You can delete individual entries in the app, or remove everything by deleting the app. If you used Family Sync, you can stop sharing and delete Guppy's data from your iCloud account (Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage). We hold nothing, so there is nothing for us to delete on our end.
10. Security
Because your data never leaves your device by default, its security is anchored in your device's own protections — iOS device encryption and your passcode or Face ID. Family Sync data is protected in transit and at rest by Apple's CloudKit encryption. There is no Guppy account or password to be breached.
11. Your rights
Privacy laws like the GDPR and CCPA give you rights over personal data a company holds about you — access, correction, deletion, portability, and opting out of sale. We hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing for us to access, correct, sell, or hand over. Your data is already in your hands: you can view everything in the app, export it to a spreadsheet at any time, and delete it whenever you like. If you have questions about these rights, contact us using the details below.
12. Changes to this policy
If Guppy's data practices ever change — for example, if a future feature required a server — we will update this policy, change the effective date at the top, and clearly note it in the app's release notes before the change takes effect. Our commitment is that any such feature would be opt-in and explained in plain language.
